What customers say?

“ We loved the adorable eclectic feel of this friendly local cafe. The food was exceptional! It was creative and fresh, including generous amounts of tender micro-greens. All for a very reasonable price! They paired sweet with savory in the best ways. I got the Radish Kiss Hashbrown bowl and my husband ordered the Breakky Salad with bacon. This was truly a unique experience that I would recommend to everyone. ”

“ My sister was getting her car repaired and we decided to give Sleepy Possum a try. So glad we did. We prefer inventive breakfast food and that's exactly what we got. My hash brown bowl had scrambled eggs, radish pico, nasturstium pico and a drizzle of chili oil. The biscuits are a little more cakey then flakes, but truly delicious. We guessed that they were made with cream. So happy we had the perfect opportunity to try it out. ”

“ Without even over reacting, this was the best breakfast I have ever had, the greens where wonderful and the dressing was so light but sweet at the same time, the biscuits where so crispy and buttery and the everything seasoning put it all together perfectly. The bacon and sausage where far from anything you could get from your everyday grocery store, the eggs where perfect seasoned and cooked great. I will be coming back here everything i hit up springfield and I suggest that everyone that wants a magical breakfast does the same! ”

“ BEST chai latte I have ever had! The service was great, the eclectic menu offered a variety of choices. We each got a different bowl, and they were suberb. The different flavors melded perfectly. We will be back! ”

“ Sleepy Opossum Café – Cozy Neighborhood Brunch in Springfield, MO We stopped by Sleepy Opossum Café on a weekend morning for brunch and really enjoyed the warm, friendly neighborhood feel. The café was buzzing — we waited about 30 minutes, but the wait staff was kind and welcoming, which made the time fly by. For our meal, we ordered a quiche, the “Breakky Salad”, and a side of biscuit and gravy. I especially loved my salad — fresh greens, tasty toppings, and a slice of their homemade rosemary bread that tasted just like it was baked with love. The quiche was a little dry for my taste, and the biscuit ended up being firmer than I hoped, but they were earnest, comforting dishes. Sleepy Opossum Café is a charming, cottage-core–style breakfast spot in Springfield. The owner built the café with local, seasonal ingredients in mind. It’s known for creative, made-from-scratch breakfast fare — think quiches with hashbrown crusts, cozy breakfast bowls, and fresh roasted eggs. Pros • Friendly, welcoming service that makes you feel at home. • Cozy, vintage-inspired atmosphere with fun, eclectic decor. • Homemade rosemary bread is a standout. • Variety in menu: from quiche and salad to creative breakfast bowls. Cons • Menu items like the quiche can be a bit dry. • Biscuits may be firmer than expected — softer might be better. • When it’s busy (like brunch hours), wait times go up and seating fills quickly. Tips • Visit during off-peak hours (weekday morning or early weekend) to avoid the longer wait. • Try the homemade breads — especially the rosemary bread — as a side or with your salad. • Ask the staff for menu suggestions — they’re friendly and know their dishes well. Sleepy Opossum Café feels like a warm, welcoming corner of Springfield where you can slow down, savor comforting flavors, and enjoy a little nostalgia. Even if a few dishes didn’t hit perfectly, the heart behind it is what makes it a favorite neighborhood brunch spot — and I’ll happily come back for another cozy morning. ”

“ This is such a cute place! We were in Springfield for a baby shower and stopped here one of our mornings and could not have been happier! We got the Apple of my Eye which was soooo good! We weren’t going to order it originally but our waitress suggested and man were we glad! It was amazing! We also got a breakfast sandwich which was the best one I had in YEARS! We also got one of their signature lattes and a London foggy and both were great. My sister is a coffee snob and wanted to go back every day we were there just for the latter alone. We picked up some pasties when checking out and those didn’t disappoint either. If you are wanting different, fresh and good food it’s definitely worth the stop! ”

“ Awesome experience and had a great time with our friends during this brunch! They literally sold out of food right as we were leaving! All of the Opossum themes are cute too! All made from scratch and one of the best breakfast meals I’ve had. Service was top notch as well. If you haven’t checked this place out, come on down! Highly recommend! ”

“ The Sleepy Opossum is a whimsical little breakfast nook that feels like stepping into your quirky grandma’s house—if she was a maximalist thrifter with a flair for funky charm and a heart for misfits. The vibe is delightfully eclectic, with walls full of knickknacks, vintage treasures, and enough curious details to keep any wandering mind happily occupied—and what truly makes it shine is the alternative, openly accepting atmosphere that wraps around you like a hug and lets you know that everyone is welcome here. The furniture is a hodgepodge of rescues from a hundred estate sales, each chair and table with its own story. I had the basic coffee (smooth, not bitter), while others at my table had the chai tea, which was rich and spiced just right. When the food came out, it looked like something off a cozy brunch blog. The dishes were served on beautiful, weighty clayware that made everything feel special. I ordered the Basic Breakey—fried eggs, sausage, bacon, and a crisp green salad with a honey mustard dressing. Everything came with their signature everything biscuit, which is exactly as good as it sounds—fluffy, flavorful, and possibly addictive. One of our group had the Purrito—essentially a burrito, but executed to absolute breakfast perfection. Tight roll, generous filling, flavor in every bite. My only real complaint? No sugar-free options. I went for black coffee hoping to add my own sweetness, but they only had raw sugar. The salad dressing was also on the sweet side—I’d have preferred an olive oil vinaigrette. But let’s be honest, that’s just me being particular. Final word: The Sleepy Opossum is more than a meal—it’s a mood. Come for the food, stay for the weird, warm energy. If you like your breakfast served with soul, personality, and a big dose of “come as you are,” this place is it. ”
